                                               Spring break is almost here!


I hope that all of your families are able to spend extra time together over our upcoming spring break! Continue to find opportunities for reading and math practice in your adventures. 


Reading


This week we read about Gooney Bird Greene. We read the rest of Lily to the Rescue. We read to someone and had partners for reader’s theater. There are all kinds of scripts for reader’s theater.

Math


            We finished a math unit. We finished place value unit 5. We played ‘Get Your Numbers In Order.’ We had lots of fun!

Writing


This week we wrote about opinions. We wrote about if we wanted to live in the desert or the arctic. Yesterday we wrote if kids should have homework. We also wrote about our opinion about ice cream.

Science


We made a mountain. We tested what makes water flow. We just finished a unit in science, our second one. We tested mud to see if they are strong for building.

Special Things


We watched the first graders perform a Pajama Party musical. We watched the sing and dance. We dressed as book characters. We went to Miss Grimm’s room.

 Happy Friday!

Reading


We finished Lily to the Rescue. We read Chickens To The Rescue, Above The Rim, and Pizza Night Every Night.

Math


            We showed numbers in expanded form. On Friday, we showed our thinking on the number line. We did number lines to show 307 and 370.

Writing


Today we were writing about snow. We also wrote our opinion about indoor recess. I loved it.

Sarett Nature Center


We learned how to tap a tree. We also learned that Native Americans discovered how to tap trees. We learned how syrup was made.

Science


We learned about Sky City and how it is a city made out of mud. We made soil out of cornstarch and flour. We put water in it. We learned about different properties of mud and tested them.

Planetarium


We watched The Little Star That Could and watched the light show at the end. We learned about stars. The star was special and he has the solar system. Also, the star’s name was the sun.

             We have an exciting week ahead! Monday there is no school, because teachers will be meeting and learning together. Tuesday morning we will be visiting Sarett Nature Center and learning about sugar mapling. If you would like to join us and you have a background check on file, please let me know. You can meet us there at 9:30. We expect to return to school by 11:30. On Thursday morning the class will be going to Upton Middle School to enjoy a show in the Planetarium. Due to space, we cannot have chaperones on this trip. 

Thank you for returning progress report envelopes and for reaching out with any questions! Please review your family plan for charging chromebooks so that we are ready to go each morning.

 Welcome March!


Thank you for the snack donations! The class received a glowing report from their substitute teacher while I was out sick this week. They are such a wonderful group of learners and I am proud of each of them!

Congratulations to our very own Abby for her performance in the talent show! We are so proud of her and all of our siblings and friends who bravely shared their skills with us!


Reading


We finished Magic Puppy and we started Lilly to the Rescue. We are also reading about historical ladies. We finished our reading log and we are starting a new one.

Math


            In math this week, we had to figure out riddles and we did cool downs. Ms. Williams was our teacher for math. We did fun math and regular math. We did a test with Ms. Williams and Prodigy.

Writing


We wrote about things we know a lot about.  Also, we made a web. We wrote about different things like turtles and fish.

Specials


Everyday we have a special. Specials are things we do at the end of the day. We have art, gym, music, and science. In art, we have a lot of fun. I like P.E. a lot. In music, we make noise.

Wacky Days


Mrs. Hooker was gone for three days. Ms. Williams was our substitute. On Friday, we had a half-day. On Friday, we saw the talent show.
